C16 – Waste Systems Engineering and Innovative Circular Models

The innovative value chain for sustainable waste management will promote new products made from recycled waste/secondary raw materials based on best available techniques (BAT). To ensure the integrated, controlled, transparent and interoperable implementation of the Waste Management Protection Programme (WMPP), a systems engineering approach will be applied. This approach aims to standardise best practices and establish a supportive environment for innovation. The main pillars of innovation in waste management are: material flow control (waste reduction, reuse, recycling and cross-sector interoperability), process awareness, and governance and innovation through the assessment and certification of WMPP procedures. The action therefore focuses on the practical implementation of digital processes that facilitate the transition from current practices to approaches that support the objectives of the LIFE IP Restart project.

Objectives: To identify key processes, material flows and stocks with the aim of reducing waste generation, increasing 'recycling flows' and improving pollution control. The action will test the support of digital technologies, promoting the identification, development, implementation and deployment of innovative solutions supported by circular mechanisms.
