Project:

LIFE IP Restart

The strategic project LIFE IP RESTART: Boosting waste recycling into valuable products by setting the environment for a circular economy in Slovenia (2022–202930) aims to facilitate Slovenia's smooth transition to a circular economy. The Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning of the Republic of Slovenia, as the lead partner, will work with fifteen partners to develop opportunities for increased waste processing into new, useful products, particularly in the construction and mining sectors. Since “waste matters” (which is our project’s main slogan), six demonstration actions featuring pilot solutions for selected waste streams will be particularly important, as these solutions will continue to be widely used even after the project concludes. By introducing complementary technical, digital, environmental, and social solutions, we will thus contribute to a more sustainable use of natural resources and the transition to a circular economy. These are also the objectives of the Republic of Slovenia’s Waste Management Program and Waste Prevention Program, a key national document for the LIFE IP Restart project.

The project's key focus areas are:

High-impact waste flows – construction and demolition waste, wastes from thermal processes, mining waste and sludge from municipal wastewater treatment plants;
Overcoming obstacles to achieving EU recycling targets and the transition to a circular economy;
Accelerating the measures outlined in the Waste management and Prevention Programme (WMPP).

The main objective of the project:

"Sustainable use of natural resources and transition to a circular economy."

Specific objectives:

To provide a mechanism for monitoring, continuous improvement and updating of the Waste management and Prevention Programme (WMPP), to demonstrate six pilot solutions for specific waste flows, and to support wider uptake of these solutions in practice.
Set ambitious sustainability targets and benefit from the support,
expertise and experience of all project partners on the road to success.

Did you know?

The construction industry is the largest consumer of raw materials, accounting for more than 50% of all exploited natural materials every year.
The construction industry generates roughly 9% of the EU's GDP and provides more than 18 million jobs.
Europe is particularly vulnerable in the area of resources, as the EU's net share in the annual global production of raw materials is less than 5%, which makes it an importer of raw materials.
