C10 - Production of Secondary Raw Materials through Industrial Landfill Mining

One of the opportunities for transitioning from a linear to a circular economy is the recycling of industrial waste for further use in the construction sector. Within this action, we will pilot an advanced process of mining and recycling deposited metallurgical industrial waste from existing industrial landfills, with the aim of obtaining secondary raw materials for use in construction (for example, for the production of concrete products, asphalt mixtures, and others). Through magnetic separation, iron will also be extracted and recycled in a steel plant.

Objectives: use of excavated and recycled materials in geotechnical works or road construction projects; use of extracted iron in steel production.

Participating partners: Nerinvest, Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute, Jožef Stefan Institute, Deltaplan, Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Energy
