This action will provide an expert assessment of what types of soil are needed for the quality revitalization of degraded areas into functional lands. The main objective is to establish a protocol for:
a) the creation of artificial soils with an appropriate chemical/mineralogical composition and physical structure, suitable for the reclamation of the topsoil according to various purposes (e.g. revitalisation of quarries, greening of urban areas);
b) the establishment of a topsoil suitable for reclamation and the formation of plant cover (e.g. for agricultural purposes).
Objectives: inventory of essential and critical parameters in the preparation of soil mixture from excavated materials for the purpose of the top layer; a protocol for the establishment of an upper layer on several types of surface pits (alluvial plains, stony pits, etc.) in humid climates; expert recommendations for the management of excavated materials and other waste materials for their use in further reclamation; guidelines for the renaturation of degraded areas, improvement of topography, improvement of protective and retention properties of degraded soils above water protection areas.
