The innovative value chain for sustainable waste management will foster the development of new products made from recycled waste/secondary raw materials, based on best available techniques. A systems engineering approach will be applied to ensure a coherent, controlled, transparent and interoperable implementation of the Waste Management and Prevention Programme (WMPP).

This action seeks to inform the private sector about the innovative value chains for sustainable waste management presented for a given area, the range of materials used and the stakeholders involved – decision-makers and economic operators.

The action seeks to improve the competencies and organisational capacity of key national and regional authorities to carry out their management and regulatory tasks in line with the circular economy and sustainable development. The primary focus is on the public sector (ministries, directorates, agencies), implementing sectors that interact directly with citizens and businesses (inspectorates, agencies, government regulatory authorities) and act as policy enablers (public institutions, regional and local development agencies).

This action focuses on construction and demolition waste in urban areas. Efforts are underway to revitalise a 900 m2 degraded area, produce products from secondary raw materials and establish a centre dedicated to the reuse of construction and demolition waste. Key activities include the development of a materials testing protocol, the introduction of a materials passport system and the production of training materials.
